The 63rd annual Grammy Awards postponed owing to alarms over the spread of COVID-19.
The significant event set to take place on Sunday, January 31, will now air on Sunday, March 14, roughly a month and a half later.
In a statement put out on Tuesday, January 5, the Recording Academy said the postponement came about “after thoughtful conversations with health experts, the host and artistes” set to perform at the event.
The report, shared on their website, noted that this had come after comments made on the COVID-19 situation in Los Angeles, US, with hospitals being overawed and ICUs attaining full capacity.
There were new guidelines from the state and local government that also led to the decision with the Grammys saying they had to ensure the safety of the artistes and those that produce the show.
The organisers express thanks to everyone that was to be involved for their patience as they work on ensuring the show is aired with a few attendees.
According to Rolling Stones, Grammy planned on a limited show, only allowing presenters and performers on site.
The nominees would have not been allowed in site thus leading to winners receiving their awards remotely.
