The police on Monday accused three tricycle operators, Mubarak Yusuf, Adamu Musa and Suleiman Abubakar, in a Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged possession of firearms.
The defendants, whose addresses were not given, charged with possession of fire arms without license.
The Prosecution Counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, claimed that the defendants committed the offence on March 23 at 08.30 p.m. at Kabusa Area of Apo, Abuja.
Ogbobe alleged that the defendants arrested by Kabusa Vigilante group and that the group retrieved a locally made pistol with two cartridges from them.
He added that during police investigation, it was revealed that the defendants did not have license or lawful authority to bear such arms.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 27 (1)b of the Fire Arms Act. They however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Omolola Akindele, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 bail with one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case until Sept. 29, for hearing.
