The disputed Kogi State Coronavirus disease index case, Sheikh Ahmad Ejibunu reportedly discharged from the National Hospital, Abuja.
Ejibunu, who’s the chief imam of kabba, whose identification as the first Covid-19 positive case from Kogi State heightened altercation between the state and authorities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, is claimed to be in better condition and will return anytime soon to Kabba.
He was reportedly discharged from hospital on Friday.
In response to a source who pleaded anonymity, the Chief Imam has been discharged from hospital, and is taking his rest with a member of the family in Gwagwalada. And, although it appeared that the recuperating Ejibunu was within the same compound because the supply, who pleaded anonymity, declined to talk with reporters.
Ejibunu was a fortnight ago referred from the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, to the National Hospital Abuja, where he was purportedly diagnosed of Covid-19, as confirmed by the NCDC.
The Kogi State authorities nevertheless rejected the claim saying that the NCDC didn’t carry along the state ministry of health, on the collection of tests carried out on the victim. The state was to take care of its position of being Covid-19 free even after the announcement of a 3rd case by the NCDC, last week Thursday.
A spokesman of the family of the Kogi Covid-19 index case, Chief Taiye Ejibunu, nevertheless issued a press release confirming that the Chief Imam tested positive to the Coronavirus disease, which was to spark another round of controversy.
The state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, last Monday, ordered a two-week lockdown of the Kabba-Bunu LGA, which was lifted the three days after on the premise that complete tests was carried out in the community, together with test carried out on the immediate family members of the stated index case, outcomes of which it reported came out negative.
Last Thursday, the NCDC announced 348 new cases of Covid-19, with Lagos State recording 163, FCT 76 and Rivers State 21.
Delta, Nasarawa and Niger states recorded eight cases each, whereas Enugu recorded six, whereas Bauchi Edo, Ekiti, Ondo and Gombe recorded 5 cases each.
Others included Benue 4, Ogun two, while Osun, Plateau, Kogi and Anambra had one each.
In his Facebook post by the Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna stated that the ministry and indeed the state authorities remain unaware of any such case, just has it denied knowledge of the first index case and another. He described the brand new figure credited to the state as mere assumption.
“The purported new case: We are not aware of who the patient is, where and when the test was conducted,” he wrote.
