Governor Godwin Obaseki, aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 19 governorship ballot vote today said his major challenger is Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the reigning All Progressives Congress (APC) and not Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the party’s governorship contender.
Attending to a media talk in Lagos, the governor said Ize-Iyamu is not an issue in the election as the people of the state revealed not to give him their mandate based on his precursors and what Oshiomhole revealed about him.
Obaseki said godfatherism frightens the democratic civil rights of the people, added that he has a mission to end the practice in Edo state. Restating that the governorship election will lay a final nail to the coffin of godfatherism in the state.
Obaseki says he’s worried concerning protecting the people of Edo State from an election set up with violence and killing.
He said the APC coordinated Saturday’s violent behavior at the Oba of Benin’s palace so as to generate terror in the minds of Edo people on election day.
“My reelection is not worth the lives of any individual and so I will do everything within my power to ensure the election is peaceful.”
The governor said he has done a lot and got praises from inside and outside Nigeria including the World Bank but rival claim he has done nothing in the last four years.
“I have over 2,000 projects but I have not commissioned one. My goal is to build but allow the people to use it commission it” he said.
