According to the state government, the decision was reached after due consultations with the Federal Government and health sector.

The Kano State Government extends the two-week total lockdown imposed on the state by President Buhari. The President on April 27 announced a two-week lockdown within the state.
As a part of measures to curtail the unfold of the ravaging Coronavirus within the state.
An announcement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba. Says the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has extended the lockdown by another week to further curb the unfold of Coronavirus.
The extension comes because the state recorded six more COVID-19 associated deaths on Monday May 11. Bringing the death toll to 32.

With 666 confirmed cases. Kano state is at the moment the second state with the highest number of infected persons after Lagos. Which stays the epicenter of the pandemic in Nigeria with 1933 confirmed cases.
