The names were contained in a letter sent to the Senate and read on the floor of the upper legislative chamber.
The President sought the consent of the Senate for the confirmation of the nominees.

President Muhammadu Buhari dispatched names of 42 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and subsequent affirmation.
The president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who read the list on Tuesday, May 12, mentioned the nominees are career international service officers.
The president mentioned the curricular vitae of the nominees can be forwarded to the Senate, including that among the names are Nwachukwu C. A.; A. Kefas; Y S. Suleiman; G.M. Okolo; G.E. Edopa, amongst others.
Lawan added that the nominees are non-executive directors of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
“President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari requesting for the affirmation of the appointment of forty-two non-executive directors of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation,” the Senate tweeted.
“President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari requesting the affirmation of Career Ambassadors-Designate,” it tweeted.
