Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State slashed the salaries of political office holders within the state by 50 per cent as a result of dwindling resources attributable to COVID-19 lockdown.
Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, stated this in a press release in Kano on Sunday.
Mr Anwar stated the action was because of shortfall within the revenue accruing to the state following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic within the nation.
He stated the decision affected the governor, deputy governor and all public office holders within the state.
“As a consequence of shortfall within the federation account and collapse within the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) due to COVID-19 challenges, all political office holders in Kano State are to obtain half salaries with effect from May.
“There’s additionally a critical setback in the IGR, because of COVID-19 pandemic challenges. Whereas nearly all companies within the state are not in operation because of lockdown.

“Other areas where the state will get income are not operational. This is also another excuse for slashing the salaries,” he stated.
