The governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El Rufai, on Wednesday, October 14, demonstrated great respect to custom as he kneeled and bowed before the emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.
According to a Twitter handle identified as Zazzau Emirate, “bowing before a king is a customary act of allegiance in Hausa/Fulani tradition”.
Recall that Bamalli succeeded Alhaji Shehu Idris as he was named the 19th Emir of Zazzau. Idris who died on Sunday, September 20, was on the throne for 45 years.
His death was described as a national loss and an end to an era by prominent Nigerians. With this appointment, Bamalli becomes the first emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100 years after his grandfather Emir Dan Sidi died in 1920.
In the video that has been watched hundreds of times on the bird app, the governor could be seen on his knees.
He stayed on his knees for several seconds amidst camera flashes with his hands folded before he got up and ushered the monarch to sit.
